ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Tim Caverly has spent his life in Maine’s outdoors. Growing up shadowing his father who was a fire warden with the Maine Forest Service and his brother, a ranger in Baxter State Park, it was natural for him to seek a career in the outdoors. Tim is originally from Skowhegan, Maine and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a teaching certificate from the University of Maine at Machias.
While in college, Tim began working as a ranger at Sebago Lake State Park for the State Parks and Recreation Commission. After Sebago, he continued his employment with the Department of Conservation with assignments as a manager of Aroostook and Cobscook Bay State Parks as well as a regional supervisor of the Allagash Region; which included the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and the Penobscot River Corridor. Tim was supervisor of the Allagash Wilderness Waterway for eighteen years.
In 1999, Tim retired from the Department after a 32-year career. Tim currently resides in Millinocket, and worked for five years in the Millinocket School System. Through his and Frank Manzo’s “New England Reads” project, by January 2023 Tim with his wife Susan had presented 327 programs to 10,740 students in Maine and N.H. In addition the Allagash Tails team has donated 2,277 books to 228 schools in Maine, N.H. and MA.
Tim, with the support of his wife Susan and Golden Retriever Sandi, they have self-published (11) books that range from children to adult. In addition they presents programs throughout New England to encourage literacy and discovery of New England’s spectacular world. When he and Susan aren’t writing or touring; the family enjoys raising Golden Retrievers, and sharing personal stories about the Maine woods.
